Epic Integration Guide
1. Register on Epic on FHIR
All SALIMmd CDA tools are registered at fhir.epic.com. Each tool has a unique client ID. Contact us for your organization's production client ID provisioning.
2. Configure FHIR Endpoints
Your Epic Interconnect server must have FHIR R4 APIs enabled. Each CDA tool specifies its required FHIR resources on its detail page (Patient, Observation, MedicationRequest, Condition).
3. OAuth2 Scope Configuration
Tools use the minimum necessary FHIR scopes. All tools request read-only access unless explicitly noted. Your ECSA will need to approve the requested scopes for your environment.
4. Testing & Go-Live
Test in your non-production Epic environment first using the non-production client ID. Once validated, download the production client to your live environment via the Epic on FHIR Downloads page.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Which Epic version is required?
SALIMmd CDA tools use FHIR R4 APIs, which are supported in Epic's May 2022 release and later. USCDI v4 APIs are supported starting with the August 2024 release. Contact your Epic technical services team to confirm your version.
What FHIR resources does each tool use?
Each tool's required FHIR resources are listed on the Clinical Decision Aids page under "Technical Specs." Common resources include Patient, Observation, MedicationRequest, and Condition. All tools use read-only scopes by default.
How do I request a Business Associate Agreement (BAA)?
SALIMmd CDA tools use a zero-PHI-storage architecture. All clinical data is processed in the browser session and never stored on our servers. For organizations that require a BAA for their compliance process, contact us at privacy@salimmd.com.
Can the tools be used without Epic?
Yes. All CDA tools support standalone mode where clinicians manually enter patient data. SMART on FHIR integration with Epic auto-populates patient data but is not required.
How are guideline updates handled?
Tools include guideline version tracking and are updated when major society guidelines change. Updates are announced on the Updates page. For example, the Lipid Management Navigator was updated for the 2026 ACC/AHA Dyslipidemia Guideline.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
Email support@salimmd.com with a description of the issue, the tool name, and your browser/device information. For feature requests, describe the clinical use case you are trying to support.
